A loan helped a member to buy fertilizer and herbicide, and to pay the cost of labor.

Sinignessigui 3 Group's story

The six members of the Sinignessigui 3 group are married women who, on average, are 36 years old and have four children. They mostly live in traditional families in Lobougoula, an area in Sikasso, the third administrative region of Mali. The group members are collaborating with the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to better carry out their farming activities during the rainy season. They are on their eighth loan, and their previous loans have all been repaid correctly.

Djenebou, seated first from the right in the photo, grows corn. With her loan she plans to buy one 50-kilogram sac of fertilizer and one drum of herbicide, and to pay the cost of labor to farm a 1/4 hectare of land.

After the harvest crops will be sold in the village and in Sikasso to male and female customers for cash and credit.

Djenebou hopes to earn an average profit of 74,000 francs CFA per harvest. These earnings will allow her to pay back her loan and also help her husband with the daily expenses.
