A loan helped to buy wholesale corn and construction materials to remodel her kitchen.

Nilza Isabel's story

Nilza is 61 years old and has made corn fritters since 1980. As a single mother she decided to generate income so as to be able to sustain her family made up of 5 children who are now adults.

She makes her product daily starting at 4 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon and she sells them for cash or on credit to nearby stores and neighbors who place orders. Her next goal is to buy an electric mill and finish remodeling her home but her biggest challenge is to compete with prices, quality and to increase her clientele.

She is currently applying for a loan from Kiva, her first one through the Mario Santo Domingo Foundation. With this she will buy wholesale corn and construction materials to remodel the kitchen, provide comfort in the workplace and better quality. With this she will increase production which constitutes a business improvement from this investment.
