A loan helped to buy more pigs.

Maria Orfelia's story

María lives in Santo de los Tsachilas, a very busy commercial city that is located in a hot and humid area of Ecuador. The city has grown a lot in the last few years because it is the bridge between the coast and the sierra.

María has two children who study in the public school near her house. Nine years ago, María decided to start her own business because she needed to and because she wanted to overcome obstacles. She buys live pigs and sells their meat in a small stall located on one of the city's main streets. She tends to her business four days a week: Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 7 am to 1 pm.

María is currently asking for a loan to buy more pigs to sell the meat; she came to the institution for this. María learned about Fundación Alternativa through her neighbors, who recommended the institution to her for the services it offers. María feels very grateful because she's already gotten loans with Fundación Alternativa and Kiva, which have helped her improve her quality of life a lot because she was able to improve her sales and improve her home with these loans.
