A loan helped a member to buy seeds and fertilizers, and pay for plowing.

Benkadi 1 Group's story

The members of BENKADI 1 are married women who average 52 years of age and 5 children. They all live in polygamous families in Natien, one of Sikasso's villages, in the third administrative region of Mali.

They work with Kiva's partner, the MFI Soro Yiriwaso, in order to carry out their farming activities during the rainy season. They are seeking their sixth loan from the MFI, and the previous loans were repaid without problems.

Mrs Madjata (first woman on the left in the sitting row) is growing earth almonds. She intends to use her loan to buy seeds and fertilizers, and to pay for plowing in order to maintain a one-hectare field.

After the harvest, the production is sold in the village and at the market, to a clientele comprising both men and women.

She intends to turn an average profit of XOF 175'000 (ca US$ 350) per planting, which will enable her to repay the loan and also help her husband cover daily expenses.

In this group: Abi, Assetou, Nachata, Fanta, Alimata, Madjata, Salimata, Kadia, Mariam, Tiefounka
