A loan helped to buy supplies and fertilizer for his coffee crops.

Santos Rosa's story

Santos is 39 years old and lives with his wife in a community in northern Nicaragua. On his small farm, he grows basic grains for personal consumption and coffee as his main source of income. He has been doing this for more than 10 years. The average coffee production on his farm within the past few years has been 55 quintals (1 quintal = 46 kg) of coffee beans in parchment per 1.74 acres of land.

For this crop cycle, Santos is requesting a loan so that he can provide adequate maintenance for his coffee crops and increase his yield. The loan will be invested in the purchase of supplies and fertilizers for his coffee plants. His goal is to continue improving his crops by implementing good farming practices and meeting the criteria that is required for becoming a certified Fair Trade grower.
