A loan helped to buy cellphones, memory cards and other accessories for resale.

Onias's story

Greetings from Zimbabwe! This is 38-year-old Onias from Bulawayo. He is married with three children and two attending school. He also cares for one dependent. Onias runs a retail business which sells cellphones and accessories, including chargers, pouches, earphones and memory cards. He also sells clothing items, such as kids wear, shoes, and jackets. The business has been in operation for two years. He says the main challenge he faces is competition from bigger retailers who offer credit to customers. Onias has requested a loan of $500 (USD) to buy more stock and new brands of cellphones for resale. The phones cost between $10 to $200, and can be sold from $15 to as much as $800. He says the extra income generated as a result of this loan will allow him to send his children to better schools, as well as boost his business. In the future, Onias plans to open a big shop in town, selling a variety of electrical gadgets.
