A loan helped to buy building materials (concrete blocks, cement, etc.).

Gina's story

Gina is a single mother and has a child. She had been living in deteriorated housing and decided to start building a house. She took out loans with Esperanza almost three years ago to expand her business selling fried food. She used most of her profits to build her house. Now she is requesting a loan to improve her house by purchasing building materials to finish building the walls, part of the roof and also some windows.

Gina is one of Esperanza Internacional's entrepreneurs. She came to Esperanza Internacional almost three years ago for a loan to expand her business. She joined the group Trabajando para el futuro (Working for the future) in one of the rural villages in Samana, where she has received five loans to invest in her business. Esperanza Internacional is running a program where most of their clients pay back their loans, fulfill the commitment to expand their businesses, and show fidelity in their groups. They can request loans to improve their house structure, while running their businesses loans and attending groups meetings.
