A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, millet, and sorghum.

Kimugui D Group's story

Hudson is pictured on the right with his hand raised amongst his Kimugui D Group members. The 15 of them, 9 women and 6 men, are farmers in Bungoma South District. Farming inputs, such as seed and fertilizer, will be delivered to him on credit to plant half an acre of maize, millet, and sorghum. Hudson joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2008, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Hudson joined One Acre Fund to improve his farming techniques, so he could generate increased profits to send his children to school.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Hudson was only able to harvest 4 bags of maize per half acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, he was able to harvest 10 bags per half acre! He plans on using future profits from the harvest to invest in livestock, and perhaps invest in another business. Hudson’s group members will each receive input loans for half an acre during the 2013 Long Rains season, so in total they will receive inputs for 7.5 acres of maize and sorghum.
