A loan helped to buy clothes.

Irene Jaqueline's story

The “Bienestar y Progreso” (Wellbeing and Progress) communal bank meets every fifteen days in Colorado in Montecristi Canton known for its rich pre-colonial culture and for its crafts that are renown both nationally and internationally; it’s where the famous straw hats come from.

Irene, 37, lives here. She’s single and lives with her parents. She’s been in the communal bank since its beginning and she’s its treasurer; she likes it because they are very united in the group.

She’s employed at a public institution from Mondays to Fridays but in addition to this she also sells all types of clothes; she has a space set aside at home to do so. While she’s at her job, she employs a person who takes care of her business. She also sells to her coworkers who are her best customers. She sells on credit and collects payments bi-weekly. Her merchandise is sent to her from New York which is why her customers ask her to show them her products as soon as they arrive. She’s been in business three years and does very well.

This loan is to buy pants, shirts and children’s clothes which are what she sells the most. Her dream is to continue working and increasing her business.
