A loan helped to buy cows to increase milk production.

Oswaldo Roberto's story

Oswaldo, 39, is married to Olga and they live in Los Bancos, a canton in Pichincha Province, one of Ecuador’s largest. This canton is located a few kilometers from the city of Quito and it has several forests. Also, its neighborhoods are populated with kind people with customs that are typical of this city. There are also several micro businesses established here by entrepreneurs who strive daily to make their dreams a reality. Other activities that stand out are agriculture and animal husbandry; abundant harvests are produced which are then sold in many provinces.

It also has many tourist attractions like waterfalls, rivers, paths and aquatic resorts that attract tourists who like extreme sports that are available safely there. Pueblo Nuevo is a focal point in this canton and it’s where Oswaldo lives with his wife and children who are 12 and 9 years old. It’s noted for being a place that produces more than one million liters of milk per month; it’s the local residents’ main activity.

Oswaldo learned this cattle-related activity from his parents; he’s been doing it for 15 years for at least 8 hours daily. Oswaldo is now aiming at owning his own farm but to reach this goal he must increase his income which is why he contacted a Fundación Alternativa executive who advised him about the loans, training and rural sector support available there so that enterprising people like him could get ahead. This led to him to request a loan that he will use to buy cows to make his dream a reality and provide his family with stability and wellbeing.
