The ten members of the Sabougnouma 4 group are married women, on average 43 years old with four children, and live mainly in polygamous households in Lanfiala, one of the towns in the Loulouni commune in the Kadiolo prefecture, the 3rd administrative region of Mali.
They work with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to manage their agricultural activities during the rainy season.
They are on their eighth loan with the institution, and the previous loans were repaid properly.
Afou Brehima, standing on the left in the first row in the photo, grows rice and peanuts.
With her loan, she intends to buy agricultural inputs and seeds to cultivate 0.5 hectares.
The produce is sold at the town level and at the Loulouni market after the harvest to a clientele composed of men and women.
She intends to realize an average profit of 80,000 FCFA per cycle.
This profit will allow her to repay her loan and also to help her husband with the daily household expenses.
She hopes to maintain this collaboration with Soro Yiriwaso in order to make the best use of her farmland and generate more income.
