A loan helped a member to buy yarn.

Las Amigas Group's story

The communal bank "LAS AMIGAS" is beginning its first loan cycle through Pro Mujer, which is run by the Villa Adela Social Center. The group is comprised of seven members and its board of directors is led by Eleuteria who is the president. The members are involved in different business activities, including antenna sales, sewing of sports clothing, sales of aprons and skirts, weaving of blankets and macramé, and cash register operator.

Eleuteria says this is the first time she has belonged to a Pro Mujer communal bank, and she decided to join on her own initiative. Currently she has a business knitting vests, blankets and sweaters, which she has been involved in for several years.

The loan she is requesting is to increase her merchandise by buying yarn at the fair in La Paz. Later she will sell the items ordered by her customers. The business has helped her support her family, since she is single with two children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she says she likes the health and money saving areas.

One of the members, Arminda, is not pictured in the photograph because she had a doctor's appointment.
