A loan helped to buy ingredients at wholesale.

Aurelia Feliciana's story

Aurelia is 64 years old but she thinks of herself as a young 20-year-old because she’s very enthusiastic and above all charismatic. She lives with her husband and daughter who she loves very much all the more so because she’s now a grandmother of a beautiful granddaughter.

Her house is located in the city of Chincha, a city known for being the birthplace of great Peruvian sports heroes as well as because most of the Afro-Peruvian descendents are here. It’s also a city where delicious meals are prepared thanks to the residents having a gift for cooking. Aurelia enjoys her free time very much taking her granddaughter for walks; she is her adoration. Also, thanks to her cooking ability she likes to make one of her favorite dishes which is ‘Arroz con Pato y Carapulcra.” She only went to secondary school but would have liked to study medicine.

Every day Aurelia goes out to work selling hamburgers and “salchipollo” [fried potatoes with fried chicken]. She works about 6 hours per day and can see up to 60 customers per day. She believes that she does well in her business because she provides good customer service and is open late which allows her to have a few more customers and also because she prepares her dishes in a very tasty way.

Aurelia is very grateful to Kiva lenders because thanks to their support she will be able to buy more ingredients at wholesale to prepare per products, especially ingredients like potatoes, meat, chicken, bread and cured meats, among others since it will help her save a bit more on the ingredients and improve her income so that she can continue working every day in order to buy a new food cart and strive to reach her great dream: “To build a house since her current one crumbled in the 2007 earthquake and above all to support her granddaughter’s schooling.”
