A loan helped a member to buy wood.

Violetas Group's story

The Communal Bank “Violetas” (Violets) is starting its first loan cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Los Andes Community Center. This group consists of nine members and is led by a Board of Directors headed by Sra. Elvira. The members of this Communal Bank engage in different businesses in order to get ahead such as selling food, selling candy for All Saints Day, knitting mittens, making blankets out of vicuña wool, knitting sweaters, carpentry, managing a neighborhood store, and selling calling cards.

Sra. Elvira says that she started working with Pro Mujer three years ago after receiving an invitation from the organization. She currently has a carpentry business where she has worked for many years.

The loan she is receiving now will be used to increase her capital for purchasing wood. She acquires her supplies at the lumber yards and then sells her products in Cochabamba. By working in this manner, she is able to earn income to support her family. Elvira is married and has one child.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, Elvira said that she enjoys working as part of a group.

In this group: Elvira , Benedicta , Matha Yovana, Juana , Primitiva, Beatriz, Juana, Saturnina, Maribel
