A loan helped to buy coffee plants and pay laborers to help her with the harvesting.

Guillermina's story

Guillermina, 66, lives in the community of Palomar (Peruvian Central Jungle). She formed her family there with Justo, her husband for the last 7 years. They have 8 children but only three of them still live at home. She owns her house.

The long work days Guillermina spends in her fields have made her very knowledgeable about farming. The bananas and coffee she’s been farming for 30 years are always well cared for and she always gets good sales prices for her products. What she most enjoys about her work is tilling the soil because this is what she’s done since she was a little girl. She has a lot of experience in this line of work and considers the most important thing transporting her products to market in the city of La Merced. In time, she hopes to buy more land to increase production. She is sure to do so because a short time ago she opened a grocery store at home where she sells basic need items to local residents. According to what she tells us her priority is to continue with the coffee harvest which is going on this month because the price of coffee beans rose considerably.

She is a member of the “Aroma de Café’ (Aroma of Coffee) communal bank and this is the fourth loan with MFP where she hopes she’ll get support to reach her goals. On the other hand, she once again commits to pay her installments like she did in her previous loans. Also, she enjoys being part of her communal bank because all the members are responsible and very mutually supportive people.

If Guillermina were to get the support, she will use the requested money to buy coffee plants to set up the nursery as well as to pay salaries of laborers that are helping with the coffee harvesting.
