Adding to basket
“Djiguisseme [hope]” is the name of a group of women from the first district of Koutiala, all of whom live in traditional extended families with their husbands, children and other family members. They are on the average 40 years old; all are married, with at least six children each. The group members sell various items, such as vegetables, condiments, smoked and dried fish, cooked dishes, etc.
In order to expand their business, three years ago the group members decided to participate in the credit program of Soro Yiriwaso. They are on their fifth group loan, and all prior loans have been duly repaid.
Sineni D., one of the group members, cooks food for sale and also sells vegetables. She cooks rice, pasta and meat in a diner near her home, mornings and evenings. She buys her ingredients at the big market of Koutiala, and her business is very popular. As to the vegetables, they are bought in Koutiala and in nearby areas and resold in Bamako little by little, until the stock is exhausted. While other members of this group plan to achieve a monthly income of 160,000 West African Francs after this loan, Sineni D. plans to earn 190,000. Apart from repaying the loan, the group members will use part of their revenues towards everyday family expenses.
