María belongs to the “Avanzando Juntas” (Moving Forward Together) community bank in the city of Talca. For the past nine years she has a fast-food stall located out the front of her house. The main products she sells are: hot dogs, barbecued meat, 'sopaipillas' (fried pastries) and empanadas (stuffed pastries). She serves in her business every day of the week from 5.30pm to 1.00am.
She will use this loan to buy tiles for the floor of her business, a mixer and also cooking ingredients such as flour, hot dogs, mayonnaise, bread, etc. Her dream is to extend her business space and include tables so that her customers can eat there.
María provides the only economic support for her household since she lives alone with her 12 year-old daughter. María is very grateful for the financial support that she has received through Fondo Esperanza's loans. She also tells us that participating in her community bank meetings together with her fellow members has helped give her encouragement.
Talca is in Maule region, in the center of the country. Most of its residents live in the rural area and mainly engage in farming activities. Talca is noted for its beautiful handicrafts and colonial architecture. Its main attractions are related to the area's wine production.
