A loan helped a member education expenses.

Luchando Por Un Sueño Group's story

Seven responsible, entrepreneurial members make up the “Luchando” (Working Hard) communal bank, and they’ve searched for a way to survive, despite the difficulties that each businesses has. This is the case with Lucinda.

Lucinda is 46 years old and has worked cleaning houses and caring for elders. Before that she used to sell snacks from a cart, where she would travel through parks, streets, and private festivals. She had to stop because she had young children who needed her care.

She tells us that she didn’t formally study practical nursing, but learned on the job at a senior citizen’s care facility, which helped her establish a future in this field. She enjoys this field very much and she uses the income to help her husband pay for her three children’s education, and cover part of their food costs. She has a daughter who is studying to become a practical nurse and Lucinda’s dream is for her to complete her studies satisfactorily, as she has demonstrated.

She will use the money from this loan to invest into her daughter’s education, including pre-practice items that she requires for his studies. She also hopes to finish building her house so that they can live more comfortably. Lucinda appears in the lower part of the photograph.
