A loan helped a member to buy fish.

Thanh Luong 66 Group's story

Ngoc, a woman who stands first from the right in this photo is the leader of Thanh Luong 66 Group. She is 39 years old. The whole family consists of 5 people including herself, her mother and three children, curently living in a small traditional stilt house in Dien Bien Province, in the northwest of Vietnam.

Like other local residents, most of her income comes from a wide variety of agricultural products based on her own existing farm which covers an area of 2,000 square meters for growing rice, cassava and corn to make feed for cattle, and pigs. In addition, the family have raised poultry such as chickens and ducks, and carp fish for many years.

This year, grain yield has been affected severely by wind conditions, leading to low productivity. Simultaneously, basic farm input prices in 2022 have risen by more than 20% compared to 2021 such as seeds, fertilizers, irrigation water, pesticides. But nevertheless, she still invests in fish because fish are easier to raise, use less investment than others and sold at a high price. She has taken out a loan from the Anh Chi Em program to get enough capital to buy fingerling (small fish).

She hopes that her investment will be successful in several months. With her profit, she will save and continue to invest in fish farming because she has available pond space.

Thank you so much to the tremendous support from Kiva lenders.
