A loan helped fertilizer.

Ortizer's story

Ortizer is an honest man full of love. He is 51 years old and lives with his wife, 48 year old Gloria and her children, 15 year old Cecilia, and 11 year old Excer, whom he loves as if they were his own. They live in his own home, located in the native community of Pumpuriani. Five years ago he decided to plant bananas, coffee, star fruit, corn, yucca, and other crops that grow in the jungle. Thanks to their quality, he is able to sell his harvest to buyers who visit him constantly on his own land.

What he enjoys most about his work is burning his fields after the harvest. (This removes the old growth to make way for new plantings.) He knows that this will provide him a good harvest. With the help of his communal bank, he is able to plant on land of his own. He tells us, “Now I am nobody’s farmhand.”

His future plans include planting on the rest of his land, which he had abandoned due to his lack of funds. He will also participate in a reforestation program and will plant some other ornamental plants and trees so that he can work properly and with the permission of the Peruvian state.

This will be his fifth credit through MFP and together with the other members of the communal bank, he is grateful for the support of all the intermediaries who have offered them new lives with opportunity.

He will use the money from this loan to buy seven sacs of organic fertilizer (natural fertilizer) and scores of coffee plants that he will plant on his farmland that he recently prepared.
