Ligia Maria's story

Lígia Maria Alfredo B. was born in Maputo City, Maputo Province in southern Mozambique. She is 31 years old, married, and has four children, ages 13, 11, 10 and 1. The three elder children go to school. Lígia finished tenth grade but did not continue school because of financial difficulties. She lives in her in-laws' house with her family and supports her parents by sending them money for household expenses.

Lígia left Maputo to go to Nampula because her husband was transferred, and two years later they returned home. For more than nine years she has worked as a teacher employed by the Ministry of Education. She also has her own business, which she runs with the help of one employee. She has an income from the business of about 14,000 meticais, a salary of 5,800 meticais and 2,000 meticais contributed from her husband. She uses these funds for household expenses and saves some in her bank account at Millenium Bim.

Lígia has never had loans from other banks. She learned about Hluvuku through co-workers who are also customers of this institution. This is her second loan. She is asking for 15,000 meticais to buy chicks, feed and vitamins to increase her stock. The earlier loan was for 15,000 meticais, and was used for the same purpose.

She promises to pay off this loan on time so she can take out more loans. In the future she would like to ask for more loans to make her business grow even more.
