Emprendedoras 2 Group's story

Juana is the coordinator of her group Emprendedoras (Movers and Shakers*), and her story is representative of her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican clients generally — many of whom recently emigrated to the DR from Haiti. Her group is located in the rural area surrounding El Seibo, an agricultural area where running water (none of which is potable) and electricity are unreliable. She lives in a simple, rented structure with a long term partner and their four children.

Juana is excited to be taking out her fifth loan with Esperanza after having successfully repaid her previous loans and grown her business. She plans to use this loan to invest in her "colmado" or small general store by purchasing oil, beans, rice, fish, sugar, eggs, spaghetti, cookies, bologni and mints to stock her store with. She will use the profits to save towards purchasing her own home as well as helping her children get educated to become professionals. She thanks you all for your support.
