Age 34 and mother of one child, Mrs. Salimata D. (in the process of divorcing her husband) lives with her parents in the Kouloukoro quarter of Koutiala city (3rd region of Mali). Never having had the chance to finish elementary school, Salimata did not have time to take an interest in work except for her mother's business. She has now done the same work for 11 years. Her main business is the purchase of jewelry, shoes, fabrics, and other various items. She is often solicited for her business and appreciated by the women of Koutiala.
In order to increase her commercial funds and satisfy her customers with quality work, Mrs. Salimata decided to join the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso in 2007. After two group loans which are repaid, she is on her second individual loan. The first was repaid in full. With this loan, she counts on purchasing a large quantity of necklaces and 20 pairs of shoes. She gets her stock in Bamako and often in Sénégal. She makes her sales in the city of Koutiala to young girls and married women. Sales are made in both cash and credit.
She plans on making a monthly profit of 100,000 FCFA which she will use to repay the loan from Soro Yiriwaso, meet her needs, support her child, and invest the rest in her business.
