A loan helped a member to buy a new donkey cart.

Nasreen Arshad Masih Group's story

Nasreen baji, the wife of A. M., has lived in the mid-size city of Riwind, Pakistan for the past 10 years. She is not educated, because her parents couldn’t afford her educational expenses. Her husband drives a donkey cart that transports fruits and vegetables from one place to another. He has been in this business for the past 2 years. Nasreen baji is applying for a loan to buy a new donkey cart for her husband, because his old cart has become rough and rotted with wear.

Nasreen baji is the leader of a group of five women from her locality. Parveen baji, Shakeela baji, and Saima baji each want a loan to buy donkey carts for loading. Hanifan baji wants a loan to buy beads, colored thread and cloth for her decorative embroidery business.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

Note: "Baji," which means "older sister," is a term of respect for women in Pakistan.
