Trustee: Women's Business Center of Utah

Salt Lake City, UT

Overview

Why are you interested in becoming a Trustee?
As a statewide nonprofit service provider, the WBCUtah will be able to help more women start and grow their own enterprises, which will allow them to better take care of their families and benefit their communities. The WBCUtah's mission is the help Utah women build confidence, create opportunities and experience success through small business ownership. We feel that opportunities and success come through the ability to successfully launch and grow a business, which requires capital. Women and minorities receive far less commercial lending than white men and I feel that Kiva will give them an opportunity, which may have been unattainable in the past. The WBCUtah is a now a Kiva Hub and is invested in the success of small business and economic inclusion in Utah. The center will provide technical assistance to borrowers and small business owners, or connection to other technical assistance providers in the area. The WBCUtah is a great fit as a Kiva Hub because of our 22-years of sustainable service to women entrepreneurs, our connection to the Salt Lake Chamber, Utah's Business Leader, and relationships with other business service providers, capital access providers and community resources.
What is the mission of your organization?
The mission of Women’s Business Center of Utah (WBCUtah) is to help Utah women build confidence, create opportunities, and experience success in business ownership.

Borrower Due Diligence

How will you decide who to endorse as a borrower? What due diligence will you conduct?
WBCUtah’s due diligence inquiry is incorporated into our relationship building with our client. We ask each potential borrower to become a client (free!) and meet with us for a free consultation and to attend a free resource session. Working directly with entrepreneurs who are interested in becoming borrowers cultivates a genuine, supportive relationship while ensuring every potential borrower receives personalized assistance developing their Kiva loan application and business profile as well as support in their financial planning and throughout the loan life cycle.
