Kiva Lending Team: William Mungall
We loan because...
William Mungall was raised in Holland Michigan. His family traveled the United States extensively, spending sabbaticals in San Francisco, Boston and upstate New York. In each of the places they went, William always explored the built environment. Museums, schools, churches, restaurants, factories- anything that looked interesting was fully examined. As he got older, his parents encouraged his interest with art classes, books and travel to different architecturally significant sites. While studying Studio Art for his bachelor degree at Kalamazoo College William became the first student at his school to attend the Denmark International Studies program in Copenhagen. What he did not realize is that they accepted him because of his perseverance in getting into the program, and considered him an experiment in having an under-graduate and non-architecture student in the program! William loved the studio environment and decided that a Master’s degree in Architecture was the next step. William studied at the University of Michigan and the Technische Universität Wien, and has very fond memories of both. After graduating, William settled in Chicago and worked for a firm specializing in all scales of residential design, loft conversions, single family, mid-rises and huge multi-family complexes. Making his way to sunny California, William continued his love of residential design by joining Landry Design Group. Over the past 12 years, William has worked on projects all over the world, and travel has become one of his hobbies.
