Kiva Lending Team: Sewing The Future
We loan because...
Our parents spent many late nights bent over sewing machines, doing taxes, bookkeeping or hair -- whatever they could to make ends meet -- in home-based businesses or second jobs. We are paying forward to women and men everywhere who are building better lives for their families and communities, particularly in fashion, retailing, and professional services. We focus on capacity-building for entrepreneurs who are expanding beyond their home-based businesses. There's also a soft spot for widows and single mothers -- but not at the risk of lowering our success rate of over 90% repayment in full.
We welcome all micro-lenders who are deliberate in who and what they fund, and prefer to support migrants, displaced people, single parents, and widows. We hope many will be the sons & daughters of seamstresses, tailors, needleworkers and handicraft makers. We especially welcome those filled with gratitude to their parents for their ceaseless labor to ensure their futures, who are ready to pay it forward with a minimum loan of $25.
