Kiva Lending Team: Honoring A Flapper Girl Extraordinaire
We loan because...
Vicky was a uniquely courageous woman who improved the quality of life for those of us lucky enough to have known her. Because of her warmth, kindness and fierce love of life, we wish to honor her memory by continuing that tradition on her behalf.
I was lucky enough to have the most amazing best friend for 35 years. We met as freshman at Merced High School, attended U.C. Davis together and shared thousands of wonderful memories and adventures.
I am awed by her truly courageous quest for living. She beat breast cancer. She beat cancer again when it returned as lung cancer. She tried to banish it again when it returned for a third time as liver cancer, but her body was just too worn out and God called her home.
She had so many interests and talents, was highly intelligent and curious, that it would be impossible to sum her up with just mere words.
Wanting to work in a field where she could share her love of reading with others, she became a librarian after getting her master's degree from U.C.L.A. She valued the importance of a good education, believed in herself as well as others. I know she would love that a team had been created in her memory that will offer others, especially women, an opportunity to improve their lives and those of their families, over and over again. For those of us left behind donating to Kiva is one more way to keep her memory alive. She touched my life, and I want to honor her by touching the lives of others.
