A loan helped a member to buy rams and paddy rice for resale.

Benkadi Group's story

Arahama, age 47, is from Mali. She is married with five children, three of them in secondary school. She has been fattening sheep for five years, and she is the one holding on to the ram in the group photo. She never had the opportunity to go to school, but she is doing well in her activity.

Arahama’s hope and dream is to be able to fully support her children and to buy them some land to live on in a large city. She partnered with RMCR to buy more rams, which she gets at local weekly fairs. With her loan of 150,000FCFA, she will buy four rams for 100,000FCFA and she will pay 20,000FCFA for animal feed and veterinary services; the remaining 30,000FCFA will be used to buy three sacks of paddy rice.

Arahama fattens the sheep for a while and sells them. She shells the paddy rice and sells the grains. She conducts her sales at the same local weekly fairs.

She makes an average profit of 45,000FCFA per loan cycle. She has no complaints about her activity.
