Asomdwe Ye Group's story

Erasmus is a 50 year old retired carpenter from the civil service. He is a member of Asomdwe Ye Group of Efutu in the Central Region Of Ghana. He has 7 children, 3 of them are in school and the rest are on their own. He has 2 grandchildren from his first daughter who are currently living with Erasmus. Erasmus now grows oranges and limes on 15 acres of land. He has been a farmer for the past 30 years. This was the reason of his retirement from the civil service, in order to concentrate on his farm as it fetches him more income than the formal employment. Now a local industrial company buys his products. He has rich experience in the business and is very positive of expanding the farm further to enhance the life of his family. He also owns a drinking spot closer to his home. However it is hard for him alone to maintain such a large farm as he grows older. As such he wants to hire labourers to weed, prune and harvest the crops. GHS 2,000 will help him cover the labour cost of maintaining his farm on time. Erasmus' main priority now is to use his income to fund the educational needs of his children and two grandchildren. He is very grateful for the financial support from his micro lenders.
