Shiva Shakti Self Help Group consists of eleven women from a village of Kalahandi district in Odisha. They formed a group to help themselves to share their problems and to solve their problems among themselves.

One of them is Gitanjali, who was selected as the president of Shiva Shakti Self Help Group. The lady standing first from the right side in the photo is Gitanjali. Gitanjali is 47 years old and is staying with her husband and her two children, who are in schooling. She hopes to see them as successful persons in their lives.

She has a few acres of land in her village, and she is using her land in vegetable and paddy cultivation. Her husband is supporting her in this activity. She and her group have requested this loan. Her portion will help her to purchase the required resources for vegetable cultivation - vegetable plants, seeds, fertilizers, and insecticides, and to cover operational expenses like labour charges.

Gitanjali and her group are very happy with this loan and thankful to Kiva for this kind support.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
