A loan of $2,100 helped a member to buy eggs and Bolivian beer in bulk.

Gotitas De Chocolate Group's story

The Communal Bank “Gotitas de Chocolate” (Little Drops of Chocolate) is starting its second loan cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Santiago II Community Center. This group consists of eight members and is led by a Board of Directors in which Sra. Reina serves as the secretary. The members of this Communal Bank engage in different businesses such as selling auto parts, weaving blankets, operating a beauty salon, selling detergents, selling shakes, making handcrafted jewelry, manufacturing sportswear, and producing macramé blankets.

This loan will benefit small entrepreneurs such as Sra. Reina. She says that she joined Pro Mujer eight years ago after receiving an invitation from a friend who is a member of the organization. Reina currently has a business of selling shakes (traditional beverages). She has become more knowledgeable about this business since she started it with the help of her mother-in-law, who also did the same type of work. Once she learned her techniques, Reina decided to acquire her own space and become independent.

The loan she is receiving now will be used to increase her capital for buying eggs and Bolivian beer in bulk. She will acquire these products from the distribution stores in the city of El Alto and use them for making the product she sells from her retail space. Working in this manner enables her to generate income for supporting her family. Reina is married and has three children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, Reina said that she enjoys the loans and the training seminars offered by the organization.

In this group: Maria Antonieta, Agustina, Irene , Yesenia Anabel, Mercedes , Reina, Ever Ariel, Ines Zulma
