Sherif is a thirty-two-year-old father of four children who lives with his family in the Ashkali community. He is the only financial provider for his family, earning his living by providing transportation services and using his horse to transport goods for his neighbors. Sherif also works on the land with his tractor. He is busy every day because he is keeping up two jobs which helps him to be in good health, explained Sherif.

The loan of 1,000 Euros that Sherif is requesting is to buy new tools for his tractor to work on the land for others which will help him to generate more income. In the future his goal is to give his children better education. Knowing that this is a Kiva loan, he wants to thank all Kiva lenders!

More information about this loan

This loan will support the economic aspirations of minority people in Kosovo. Roma people and ethnic Serbians have historically faced a tremendous amount of hardship in Kosovo, and are still socioeconomically and politically vulnerable. During the 1998-1999 war, the fighting displaced 250,000 people. Among those displaced were an estimated 80-90% of the region’s Roma population. Today, Roma and ethnic Serbians living in Kosovo still face discrimination and are excluded from many aspects of society, including fair political representation and high rates of unemployment. By supporting this loan you are helping provide opportunity to marginalized populations.
