A widow living in a rural village in the Dambae district of Kampong Cham province, Rin is 53 years old and has four children. Rin has worked to feed her family by growing cassava for seven years. She earns about 4000 KHR per day to meet the family’s needs.

Rin’s group consists of three members who are all female. She has been with VisionFund for three cycles and fully paid back the previous loans. Those loans helped her to support her business. Now she is leading her group to apply for a loan. As the leader, Rin is going to use her portion of the loan to plow the cassava field and pay labor fees. She hopes to increase her crop yield in order to improve her family’s living conditions.

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
