Assitan's story

Ms. Assitan is a 33-year-old married woman and the mother of six children. She lives with her children at her husband's place in the Massablacoura district of Bougouni. After several years of Koranic schooling, she decided to interest herself in revenue-generating work, especially in the buying and selling of peanut butter which she learned from her mother. With over twelve years of experience, she has a mastery of this business.

Having been introduced to the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso through an agent of the institution, she decided to join its loan program and is now on her first loan.

To obtain substantial working capital, she decided to join Soro Yiriwaso to purchase 12 sacks of peanuts that will be processed into peanut butter. She gets her supplies in and around Bougouni. Sales are made to a mix of customers at the big market of Bougouni and at home.

Ms. Assitan is highly appreciated and much in demand in the market due to the quality of her peanut butter. Her sales rate is very high, and this enables her to make a monthly profit of 40,000 francs CFA. With the profits, she envisions ensuring that certain family expenses are covered and improving her enterprise further.
