Jamaica Group's story

Amos, who is in his late 30s, is married, with two girls who are in school. Since 2002, he has had a genge (fruits and vegetables) business. He indicated that it is a good business due to more customers. He works from 6am to 2pm daily and is able to make a good monthly profit. This will be his fifth loan from Tujijenge Tanzania. He used the previous loans to buy more genge (fruits and vegetables) stocks, buy a plot of land where he expects to build a house, pay school fees and household expenses, and he has successfully paid back all his loans. Amos will use this loan to buy more fruits and vegetables to reach his increased clients' demand. His dream is to one day be able to build a house. He will share this loan with his loan group 'Jamaica,' which totals 11 members. The members of the group will hold each other accountable for paying back the loan.
