A loan of $450 helped to buy a food cart.

Olga Tarcila's story

Olga is a member of the communal bank Cristo del Consuelo. She lives in the city of Cuenca. This city is part of the December 1999 Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It’s a city that’s a mix of colonial and modern, where the people observe the culture and traditions of their parents.

Olga is 29 years old, married, and has had 5 children aged 13, 10, 8, 6, and 4 years old. Her oldest studies in high school and her youngest four study in a school in the city. Her husband is a travelling salesman. They don’t have their own home and for that reason rent.

She sells chuzos (meat on a stick), a business that she’s been in for 12 years, and she works from Monday to Saturday without set hours.

She’s been a member of the communal bank for 3 years, and she will invest her new loan into the purchase of a new cart for her business.

Her dream is to have her own home.
