A loan of $650 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Amua Group's story

Greetings from Amua Group in Western Kenya! Joseph is the facilitator of the Amua group. This group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Joseph takes care of four children at home. He joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough to feed his family, access fertilizer and hybrid seeds and ensure good produce on his farm. In the recent 2011 season, Joseph had a good maize yield harvesting 10 bags on 1/2 acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Joseph was only able to harvest two bags of maize on 1/2 acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Joseph and his group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from his maize sales, Joseph will educate his children, ensure food security and invest in livestock rearing.

In 2012, the members of Amua group will each plant between ½ and 1 acre of maize.

He is pictured in the photograph with his group members.

In this group: Joseph, Ann, Benson, Robert, Kennedy, David, Simon
