A loan of $900 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Chrisps Group's story

Jecinta is the facilitator of the Chrisps group. Jecinta and her group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Jecinta takes care of six children at home. She joined One Acre Fund to obtain One Acre Fund’s best prices and to increase her maize production. In the recent 2011 season, Jecinta had a good maize yield harvesting 12 bags on one acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Jecinta was only able to harvest eight bags of maize on one acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Jecinta and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, Jecinta will educate her children and invest in livestock rearing.

In 2012, the members of Chrisps group will each plant maize plots between ½ and 1 acre of land.
