A loan of $1,275 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Amua Group's story

Robert takes care of two children at home. He joined One Acre Fund because of One Acre Fund’s best prices and in order to ensure food security for his family and later educate them. In the recent 2011 season, Robert had an excellent maize yield harvesting 8 bags on ½ an acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Robert was only able to harvest 2 bags of maize on ½ an acre of land. With income from maize sales, Robert will educate his children and save for the future.

Robert is the facilitator of the Amua group. In the photograph above, Robert is pictured with his group members. Robert and his group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program. In 2012, the members of Amua group will each plant maize plots between ½ and 1 acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Robert and his group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.
