Margarita's story

Margarita is a member of the “Las Lameñas” community bank which is located in Lamas district and province, in San Martín department. She is 53 years old, married, and has one daughter who is studying in the Instituto Pedagógico (teachers college). Margarita didn't previously own any other business but as she didn't want to be a burden to her husband and wanted to support him financially, she had the idea of starting her own business. Her husband supported her from the beginning so that she could keep busy. With a little capital (800 soles), she started selling groceries in her home. She currently also sells 'chicha' (a corn-based drink) and, on Sundays, she prepares 'ceviche' (a traditional seafood dish) to sell to customers who already know her for the quality of her products and her attentive customer service. Margarita will use this loan for 3,000 soles to stock her business with products such as canned food, candies, groceries and soda. Margarita is a hard-working and tenacious woman. Her dream is for her family to become more united in the future and for her business to continue growing in order to guarantee her future.
