Valle Verde
A loan of $50,000 helps to support an organic, fair trade-certified cooperative Valle Verde to improve the livelihoods of women farmers and conserve Peru’s Amazon.

Valle Verde's story
In the coffee-growing region of Rodríguez de Mendoza in Peru’s Amazonas region, Valle Verde supports close to 500 smallholder farmers to build more sustainable and profitable coffee farms. Nearly half of Valle Verde’s members are women, many are heads of their households and face challenges like unstable income and limited technical support.
The cooperative holds organic, Fairtrade, and Rainforest Alliance certifications, enabling its farmers to sell their coffee in premium markets and receive prices that are higher than those offered by local buyers.
Additionally, Valle Verde provides on-site training in sustainable practices that improve soil health, protect local biodiversity, and help improve coffee crops. Members can also access small credit lines to help cover the costs of inputs, reducing dependence on informal lenders and improving their financial stability.
With this support, Valle Verde’s members have increased their production by almost 50% and now earn 77% on average compared to non-members.
The cooperative also leads reforestation initiatives, encouraging farmers to plant shade trees that regulate extreme temperatures and make farms more climate resilient. These agroforestry practices protect the biodiversity of surrounding Amazon forests.
With your support Valle Verde can expand its reach, especially to women producers, and support more smallholder farms in this remote region to increase their incomes and long-term stability through organic coffee farming.
