Juan Carlos' story
I, Juan Carlos was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, in a lively home with five siblings. Growing up in a city filled with both culture and challenges, I learned early the importance of resilience. Unfortunately, as crime and insecurity became a constant threat in my community, I made the difficult decision to leave my homeland and seek a better future in the United States.
As an immigrant and a single father, I carry a deep sense of responsibility not only as a provider but as a role model for my daughter who has a special gift of being on the autism spectrum. Her unique way of experiencing the world inspires me every day to be more patient, understanding, and driven. Everything I do is with the purpose of giving her a life full of support, opportunity, and unconditional love.
Coming from a culture where traditional gender roles are still deeply rooted, I have faced many comments and judgments. Some people have questioned my decision to be so present and involved in my daughter’s upbringing, suggesting that “a man’s job is to work, not raise children.” But rather than letting these words discourage me, I use them as motivation. Every challenge and every stereotype fuel my determination to grow both professionally and personally.
Today, I am a proud father who continues to strive for self-improvement. I pursue every opportunity to develop my skills and become the best version of myself for my daughter and for the future we are building together.
