Las Reynas De Ilom Group's story
Among colored thread and dreams of improvement, Margarita has learned to build her own path. She is twenty-four years old, in a committed relationship with a mason, and has two children, ages two and four, who do not go to school yet. Margarita finished fourth grade and left school due to financial reasons.
For four years, she has worked weaving traditional blouses (huipiles), an activity she does from home and which she sells to order. Margarita weaves four huipiles a month. In addition, two years ago she decided to diversify her income, investing in a mototaxi (a three-wheeled vehicle) which provides services within the community and is driven by an employee. Margarita asks for her first Kiva loan to purchase different colors of thread wholesale, with the objective of increasing her production. Her goal is to continue growing in her business.
In Friendship Bridge's Las Reynas de Ilom communal bank, there are seven Maya Ixil women and they live in the department/state of Quiche. They weave traditional clothing, sell chicken and fried potatoes, and have an eatery. The women benefit from participating in the Microcrédito Plus program of loans, monthly educational training, and bimonthly health services. Topics such as good investment and savings are important for the women's comprehensive growth.
They thank Kiva lenders for helping visionary women such as Margarita!
