Hasifah's story

Hasifah, 34, lives in the town of Kawempe in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has four children who are in school.

For the past seven years, Hasifah has been working hard to manage her restaurant. To help expand her business, she has requested a loan of 5,000,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more ingredients for the meals she serves and will help Hasifah generate greater profits and expand her business.

She hopes that in the future she will be able to buy land. Hasifah  is a member of BRAC's microfinance program, which primarily serves small-group members like her who do not have the collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
