Colonia Los Diaz Group's story

Rosario is 49 years old, married and the mother of 4 children who are between 17 and 33 years old. Her children have an average of seven years of education; three of them are married and have given her grandchildren.

She studied up to sixth grade of school. She was not able to study because of her family’s limited financial situation, and because the school was far away from the community. Rosario’s husband works at a plant nursery.

For more than 30 years, Rosario worked raising creole chickens and pigs which she sells from her house. Also, eight months ago, she started a second business which was selling fruit smoothies and enchiladas from a stall in front of her house, an activity where her youngest daughter helps her sometimes.

Rosario is requesting her second Kiva loan to buy fruits and ingredients for her recipes. Her goal is to be better recognized and attend to her customers’ growing demand.

Seven women together with Rosario are part of the Communal Bank of Friendship Bridge “Colonia los Días” located in a rural area of the department/state of San Marcos. They work selling fruit smoothies, growing basic grains, food, casual clothes and bed sheets. They will also meet monthly to make payments to the loan and will participate in educational training as part of the “Microcrédito Plus” program. Training is essential for the success of these women, because they have little or no formal education.

Rosario shares: “Thanks, Kiva lenders”.
