Scovia

Scovia's story

Scovia, 41, lives in the town of Kawempe in the central region of Uganda. She is married and has four children with one of them currently in school. For the past 10 years, Scovia has been working hard to manage her pub, which makes and sells local brew. To help expand her business, Scovia has requested a loan of 4,000,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more liquor and soft drinks to sell and will help Scovia to generate greater profits and invest more in her business and buy food for her family. She aspires to educate all their three remaining kids up to university. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program, which primarily serves small-group members like her who do not have the collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
