Haciendita Group's story

Leonarda is 37 years old, is married, and is the mother of five children between 2 and 13 years old. Three of her children are in third, fifth, and sixth grade in school. She doesn't have a formal education, since she wasn't able to attend school in her childhood. Her husband is dedicated to business, and they work together for their family's wellbeing.

For twelve years, Leonarda has been dedicated to buying free-range chickens ready for slaughter and selling the meat by the pound from her home. This generates a steady income. In addition, for six years, she has run a convenience store from her house; her older daughter helps her with this.

Leonarda requests her second Kiva loan to invest in buying staple products, snacks, and drinks, with the goal of growing her inventory and of continuing to offer a variety of products to her demanding clientele. She also wants to continue increasing her sales and strengthening both her household finances and her children's education.

The seven women in the Friendship Bridge loan group called "Hacienda" plan to invest the loan in their business, which are: convenience stores, selling spare parts, selling chicken meat, and raising small animals. These women receive trainings as part of the "Microcrédito Plus" program through Friendship Bridge, and they learn about saving and good investment.

The Kiva lenders are a fundamental part of the lives of enterprising women like Leonarda!
