María

María is a senior farmer from Popayán, Cauca, with 47 years of experience in the countryside. She owns a one-hectare plot of land where she harvests more than 5,000 coffee plants organized by growth stages, which she maintains through regular cleaning and harvesting to ensure responsible management. She cares for her crops using supplies she obtains from a local store, traveling there weekly on an old tricycle to which she has attached a trailer to transport fertilizers and tools; however, this requires greater physical effort and takes more time.

María lives with her husband and her grandson in a house they built near their crops. They have two independent adult children who support them when farm work requires it.
