Norma Nineth's story
Thirteen years ago, Norma (50 years of age) found an opportunity for personal growth in the food business. She lives in the department/state of Sololá. She is a Spanish speaker and has limited understanding of the Kaqchikel language of the Maya region. Norma is married and the mother of nine children over the age of fifteen, all of whom have successfully completed secondary school. She has three children currently attending secondary school. She has five married children and is a grandmother of nine.
Eight years ago, Norma specialized in baking and opened her second business selling all kinds of cakes and pizzas that she bakes at home and delivers. Seven years ago, she started her third business selling delicious snacks at one of the schools in her community. She feels very supported by three of her daughters and three employees. Norma is a very busy woman who is very proud of what she has achieved. Norma promotes her products on social media and fulfills retail and wholesale orders for events and parties.
Due to high customer demand, Norma needs a larger loan, so she joined the new Friendship Bridge “Puente al Éxito” program. Norma will use her second Kiva loan to buy ingredients and materials such as flooring and cement to remodel the kitchen where she prepares her dishes.
